"En Este Pueblo No Hay Ladrones" is a treasured Mexican film based on a story by Gabriel García Márquez. This newly restored classic captures the misadventures of Dámaso, a small-town thief whose theft of billiard balls leads to unexpected consequences. Featuring an illustrious cast, including cameo appearances by legendary filmmaker Luis Buñuel and renowned actor Alfonso Arau, this film is a testament to the rich heritage of Latin American cinema.

Following the screening, there will be a brief conversation with Alejandra Espasande, a media archivist, Public Programs specialist, film researcher, and essayist. Alejandra is the former film curator at UCLA and currently serves as the Coordinator of Preservation and Foundation Programs at the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences. This discussion promises to provide valuable insights into the film's themes and historical context.
Curator Information:
The program is curated by Guido Segal, screenwriter, LACLA Program Manager, film professor, and programmer. Segal has worked on multiple films and TV shows in his native Argentina, Spain, Finland, Austria, and the US, where he currently resides. He was selected as a jury member at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014 and has worked for Disney, Telemundo, Anonymous Content, among others. He teaches Screenwriting at UCLA and is a collaborator with the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival and the Film Noir Foundation.
