Distinto
Amanecer (Films Mundiales, 1943, 108 minutes)
Directed by Julio Bracho
Starring: Andrea Palma, Pedro Armendáriz, Alberto Gálan, Narciso
Busquets
Celebrated
as one of the finest Mexican films of its time, Distinto Amanecer stars
Pedro Armendáriz as a man hunted by corrupt government officials after
the murder of his friend, a union leader. His search for answers is aided by
Julieta (the sultry Andrea
Palma) but a complicated past brings their relationship to a quick boil.
Torn between the forces of love and loyalty, this taught drama quickly develops
into a noirish tale of psychological, moral and political intrigue. Directed
by Julio
Bracho and starring internationally renowned film star Pedro
Armendáriz, Distinto Amanecer defied tradition with its haunting
imagery of Mexico City as a metropolis steeped in shadow and secrets and set
the stage for the emerging Golden Age of Mexican cinema.
Program: Special guest tribute to Pedro Armendáriz.
